Porridge
Porridge is an electronic producer from Kildare. He is set to release the next single "In The Box" off his new album "You Don't Belong Here". This track is a follow up from his previous release “A Glitch In The System” In The Box is an electro house track inspired by dystopian and Sci-Fi themes, drawing from an Orwellian style future where everyday life is held captive by our machines. Inspired by acts such as Deadmau5, Daniel Avery and Rezz, Porridge blends a unique mix of industrial electro and house. Porridge certainly offers something fresh and exciting to the Irish electronic scene. With an full length album and several remixes from Irish acts like Zapho, Dead Label, Jack Rua, Viscose & Restive Nation. Porridge certainly cemented himself as a powerhouse producer
Jon Hopkins - Open Eye Signal
First time I heard Jon Hopkins was from an old college friend on a night out. I remember hearing this track and instantly wanted to tear into the rest of it. His production style really shaped my approach to making music and playing it live also.
Deadmau5 - I Remember
Deadmau5 in particular has always been a favourite of mine. Everything from his early progressive house days to his soundtracks and glitch tracks. I always use his tracks as references when it comes to production and mixing. His knowledge and self direction is always something I strive for. This track in particular just has that perfect Deadmau5 synth and vocal.
The Prodigy - Invader Must Die
I saw them for the first time in Oxegen 2010 and it was one of those life altering moments. Ever since then I have wanted to blend heavy music with electronic elements. So this song has always been a massive influence on me, Particularly my band Restive Nation
Rezz - Edge
One of my new favourite acts for sure. Rezz has had a massive influence on my style. The way she blends dancefloor beats with industrial style bass synths. You can really here her influence on my new track “In The Box”.
Nine Inch Nail - We're In This Together Now
Nine Inch Nails and Trent have always remained a top ten band for me. Trent’s style and music has remained a massive part of my inspiration for making music. I've always loved industrial music and NIN was one of the main reasons I pursued music production in the first place.
Pendulum - Hold Your Colour
Pendulum was my first introduction to heavy Drum & Bass. This was the type of fast paced electronic music that was missing in my life. The way they performed the songs was something I really based my life set up on. Especially with my band. I haven’t done many DnB style songs but it’s something I’m getting back into. I always loved the vocal lines and the really heavy guitars in their tracks.
Skrillex - Kill Everybody
Skrillex remains one of those artists that stays with me. Hearing his production and attention to detail stuck with me. It was certainly the next step after listening to the likes of Deadmau5 and The Prodigy. Those heavy bass sounds really helped me shape my sound and to push stuff to its absolute limits.
Four Tet - Angel Echoes
Four Tet is an absolute legend. His unique blend of samples and light electronica was so inspirational for writing melodies and building one hook. Having repetition without it being boring. This track is still a major one to draw from. The looping vocal is something I always include in my tracks
Burial - Archangel
This song from Burial just always provides that groove. The Lo-fi element is something I use quite a lot in my songs. Those loop drum grooves really provide a human element. Something which I feel is so important in electronic music. It’s so dark and the vibe of this track really sets a tone. It’s almost dystopian and those vocal edits are amazing.
Massive Attack - Inertia Creeps
One of my favourite electronic acts still. I saw them at EP in 2018 and the stage show blew my tiny head. I love those old school sounds and just building on a simple groove. I always come back to Massive Attack, especially when I’m writing more down tempo stuff and trip hop style beats. Everything in this track just sits so well.
