The Rosecaps

The Rosecaps are an exciting emerging independent rock band from Galway, Ireland. The Band consists of Daniel O’Malley on lead vocals/guitar, Shane Fahy on keys, Daniel Fahy on bass and Emmet Feerick on drums, the group began as childhood friends with a shared love of music. They began writing songs together and playing smaller gigs to fund their nights out, but upon realising the potential of their own music, the band dreamed big. Going so far as to collectively defer their college courses, The Rosecaps committed themselves to writing and releasing as many songs as they physically could. They boast an expansive discography filled with a refreshing, exciting new sound, landing them upcoming slots in this year’s Sea Sessions and Indiependence festivals, as well as an opening slot for The Stunning later this year.

Their live shows are packed with energetic riffs, infectious melodies and an even bigger selection of unreleased tracks that crowds can’t get enough of. Some of their most noteworthy performances include support slots for Wild Youth, Hudson Taylor, and Chasing Abbey, as well as opening for The Clockworks throughout their tour of Ireland in 2022.

Taking inspiration from bands such as The Killers, Arctic Monkeys, BlurThe Cure and The Smiths, they each contribute equally in their songwriting process, whether it be lyrically or musically. When it comes to releasing music, The Rosecaps certainly don’t plan on stopping anytime soon, constantly looking to the next studio session. Planning ahead, The Rosecaps aspire to record a full-length album from their substantial backlog of demos and unreleased material.

Their eagerly anticipated new single ‘Reminder’ was released on June 23rd.

Daniel

  • Sultans of swing - Dire Straits

I was introduced to the works of the Dire Straits by my dad who was an avid fan so naturally Sultans of Swing was one of the first songs I tried to master on guitar. Even after many years of listening and attempting to play along, that tune never gets old.

  • Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine - The Killers

This song really stood out to me on first listen due to its strong bass line. It’s really a driving factor in this song and I find it’s songs like these that stick with you. The aim is to create music that has the same effect on people and keeps them listening.

  • Love Really Hurts Without You - Billy Ocean

The band's party piece you could say. Another one that we played at the early gigs, this song was one of the first songs that we sat down and worked out harmonies for. It also kick started our online presence as it was one of our first to post on Instagram.

  • Mark My Words - The Coronas

The Coronas have been a huge influence for all of us and this song is still one of my favourites. Music theory was always a part of our writing process but it was really highlighted to me in this song when I was learning it and dissecting how it was written. It has had a huge impact in how I approach melody writing and chord structures.

Emmet

  • Half The World Away - Oasis

It’s the first song I ever learnt on guitar. The chords to the song were particularly tricky for me at the time but after learning them it was definitely a great foundation as a beginner. I then used half the world away as my piece of the month in music class which is where I met the other lads in the band. I think there was a deeper meaning in picking that song as well, because years later I did a deep dive into oasis’ discography and they quickly became one of my favourite bands of all time.

  • I Want to Hold Your Hand - The Beatles

This song holds a lot of meaning to me especially in the early stages of the band. I remember practicing the main drum fill of the song over and over before the lads came to rehearse. I also sang harmony while playing the drums which was something that I had never done before.

Dom

  • A Certain Romance, Arctic Monkeys

This song really was the soundtrack to my childhood growing up. I have memories of me and my best friend trying and failing to download the song onto our primitive smartphones. This song and Arctic Monkeys in general inspired a lot of my lyrical style when I began writing my own songs, and I was obsessed with how they turned the premise of a night out into such a gripping story. Even from a musical standpoint, I'll never forget the ecstacy of hearing the two guitar solos overlap in the outro.

  • Candy - Paolo Nutini

I first fell in love with this song when I heard my uncle sing and perform it on guitar. The tune quickly became my party piece, and I think I really developed as a singer by trying to replicate the subtle nuances and complexities of Paolo's vocals. Also, because I played the song so often, I happen to have so many different memories and moments associated with this song depending on where it was sung.

The Rosecaps

  • Mr Blue Sky, ELO

This song is what we opened our first cover gig with. It stayed as our opening song for many gigs after and is one song that we all collectively loved playing. It allowed us all to improvise and experiment with our individual instruments as we were getting used to playing as a band.

  • All These Things That I've Done - The Killers

The story is that the idea to form a band was made while this song was playing. Although the facts are blurry on that one, this song has definitely been a huge influence for the band. Being one of the first songs we played together it has always been a collective favourite.
