Arborist
ARBORIST, aka Belfast native Mark McCambridge, announces details of his third album An Endless Sequence of Dead Zeros released 21 April 2023. Produced by Matthew E White at his Spacebomb Studios in Richmond, Virginia and bearing all the hallmarks of his sound and that of the Spacebomb Houseband, it sees ARBORIST merge a driven experimentation with a classicist approach to song structure and melody, with esoteric lyrical themes born out of the fugue of the last few years and evoking a dream-state. File under John Cale, with his skill of framing a beautiful melody in a song which pushes the limits of what a song can be. Other touchstones for the album include Bill Fay, Howe Gelb, Lee Hazelwood, Dylan’s Nashville Skyline, Wilco’s A Ghost Is Born and The Go-Betweens.

Ferna
In 2017 Hannah McPhillimy, aka ferna, originally from Coleraine in Northern Ireland, moved to the US for two years to complete a Masters in Music Composition at the University of Michigan. This relocation inspired the sounds and sentiment for “New City”, the third release from her debut album, Understudy (out Spring 2023).
Exuberant synths, homemade drum kits (literally, made from a suitcase) and dispassionate vocals, this track visits both the euphoria of beginning again and the pain of having a reason to leave in the first place.
“Trying to hold onto a sense of who you are, while also shedding an old skin. It’s the tension between those things.” - ferna

Spacing
Out of Light is the new single from Wicklow dream-pop artist Spacing. Spacing is a project that came together after a year of writing and recording songs with a drum machine at home. The song was recorded with a full band in the Hive Studios, Kilcoole, where it was mixed and mastered by Eoin Whitfield of Ehco and formerly of Enemies. The drum machine remained in the recording with the goal of maintaining the lo-fi sound of its early demos. Lyrically, the song is about the desire to be left in the dark and the benefits of not knowing why things haven’t gone as planned. The accompanying video was filmed and edited by Ben Farrelly of Ragaire, it was shot in various locations in Kilcoole, near where the song was written and recorded.
